xxCEB meets PUCSL deadline

August 01, 2016, 11:50:28 AM by admincebeu2 | Views: 459 | Comments: 0

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has finally forwarded its Long Term Generation Plan to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), meeting an August 1 deadline set by it for the submission of the plan.

The Government had already decided to convert the proposed coal power plant in Sampur into Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). However, with several parties, including the CEB Engineers’ Union (CEBEU) calling for a scientific study to be conducted before deciding on the future of coal, the revised plan contains a mix of both coal and LNG power plants, the Sunday Times learns.

xxNotice of Trade Union Action

July 22, 2016, 06:00:34 AM by webeditor | Views: 656 | Comments: 0

Dear Member,

As you already aware CEBEU raised our objections to the ongoing out ad-hoc changes to policy related to planned power generation projects and options. One of our major concerns was the alleged decision to stop Coal power development altogether and instead replace them with LNG plants. CEBEU have already warned the Ministry of Power and Energy our intention to take trade union action if CEBEU's two demands are not met. One of those was the proper study of the consequences of moving from Coal to LNG. As explained above, what is happening is the right opposite of CEBEU's
demand.

Hence  we already informed all the committee members of following committees to suspend their work until further notice with effect from today.

1. Construction of a 300MW HFO/LNG fi red Power Plant at Kerawalapitiya
2. Construction of LNG Terminal with required Infrastructure
3. Construction of 200MW HFO/LNG fired Power Plant at Hambanthota
4. Long term procurement of LNG for Power Plant
5. Ministry Consultant Procurement Committee for Consultancy procurement for LNG
