About Us

Despite wielding an enormous bargaining power due to the involvement of its membership in providing the ever so important Electricity supply to the nation, CEBEU has always acted most responsibly prior to exercising its rights to engage in Trade Union actions. CEBEU has not involved in any Strike action that has caused the total interruption of supply since 1996. Even in 1996, CEBEU was compelled to resort to Trade Union action to prevent the privatization of the CEB subsidiary Lanka Electricity Company (LECO), which plunged the country to total darkness for nearly 3 days.

The governing body of the CEBEU is the Executive Committee (EXCO) headed by the President of CEBEU. The 21 member CEBEU EXCO has 10 Executive Committee members and 11 office bearers, namely the President, Vice President, two Joint Secretaries, the Editor and the Treasure. In addition, to represent the membership that is serving in all four corners of the country, CEBEU has a group of “Area Representatives”.The CEBEU Executive Committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting by the general membership. The Executive committee meets regularly once a month with the chairmanship of the president.

CEBEU is renown in the Power & Energy sector for its involvement as a strong pressure group on key policy issues. The CEBEU’s struggle to introduce Coal Power generation to the country is part of history. CEBEU has always given the membership the strength and courage to work impartially and to take correct decisions abiding by the ethics governing the profession. CEBEU is proud of its history and looks forward to serve the membership and the power sector of the country in the years to come.
