Past Memories of CEBEU

Funds were raised from CEBEU members to help the victims of Tsunami affected CEB families in Ampara , Kalmunai and Batticaloa.

Later a medical equipment worth  over Rs. 500,000/-  was donated to Karapitiya Hospital with the remaining funds by the CEBEU President Eng. Rohan Seneviratne.

We went to Kalmunai & Ampara just 3 days after Tsunami to help people there…Whole are was flooded and it was very difficult journey…

Next day to Batticaloa through LTTE controlled area.. We went through big  LTTE camps, LTTE check points….!!! (during a peace talk period so no big issue)

After Sampur

The government did not pursue renewable energy sources as the next immediate option, despite the expectations of the public and environmentalists. Instead, on September 14, 2016 (the day after the Sampur coal project had been cancelled) the government called for tenders for a 300MW diesel power plant, calling it a liquid natural gas (LNG) plant in name alone so that the project could proceed without any protests by environmentalists. Energy expert sounds warning

Prof. Kumar David, a veteran Sri Lankan professional in the power and energy sector warns that holding back the construction of the 1200 MW clean coal power plant scheduled to be constructed in Sampur would cause a massive loss to the country’s economy.

This power plant is part of the Long Term Generation Plan of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). He emphasized that if the construction of this plant was not put through immediately it will ultimately cause a Rs. 100 billion loss to the power sector every year. READ MORE…
